Canada’s men’s hockey team is on its way to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics gold medal match.

The defending champions defeated the United States 1-0 to make it past the semifinals. The lone goal was scored by Victoria’s Jamie Benn.

The Dallas Stars left-winger put one past U.S. goaltender Jonathan Quick early in the second period. The goal was tipped off a shot by Edmonton’s Jay Bouwmeester.

The Montreal Canadiens' Carey Price stopped 31 shots for a shutout.

After Canada's women's team beat its American counterpart yesterday (February 20), the men's team win means that President Barack Obama owes Prime Minister Stephen Harper two cases of beer.

Canada is scheduled to play Sweden for the gold medal on Sunday (February 23) at 4 a.m. PST.

In Vancouver, bars and restaurants have received permission from the province to open for the early puck drop, though alcohol cannot go on sale until 9 a.m.
