      Vancouver indie singer-songwriter Michael Gresham performs with Jake Touzel and Lomas at the Roxy.

      Local Latin-folk band Locarno headlines at the West Vancouver Memorial Library.

      Capilano's own "A" Band, NiteCap, and faculty guests present a musical tribute to American jazz composer Billy Strayhorn. Held at the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts.

      Abbotsford rock foursome Little Wild, with guests Alea Rae and Hollow Twin, takes the stage at the Biltmore Cabaret.

      East Van indie-folk band the Creaking Planks performs in an 11th-anniversary show with guests Sidewalk Cellist and the Myrtle Family Band. Held at the WISE Hall.

      Horn-driven ska band the Brass Action performs with Brehdren, Kownterpoint, and Sweet Leaf at the Railway Club.

      Vancouver-based electronica collective Chapel Sound hits the Biltmore Cabaret with Heroshe, BDG, Phil David, Loner, Joseph L'Etranger, Jade Statues, Shaunic, Jnl Wsuptiger, and Silence.

      Wear sneakers and dance to the live music of Whistler party band the Hairfarmers at the Kay Meek Centre.

       

      SPORTS

      All Star Wrestling presents matches featuring Team USA, Sikh & Destroy, Adam Ryder, and King of the Yukon. Held at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.

       

      COMEDY

      American insult comic Colin Kane, known for appearing in The Wedding Ringer, performs at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club.

      The ACT Arts Centre hosts a comedic double bill featuring performances by Anne Marie Scheffler and Chris Gibbs.

      Alicia Tobin critiques audience members' five-minute drawings and hosts comedy by Ivan Decker, Ryan Williams, and Kevin Banner. Held at the Hot Art Wet City Gallery.

      Vancouver comedian and impressionist Patrick Maliha performs a solo show at Lafflines Comedy Club.

      Three teams of Vancouver improvisers have 20 minutes each to compete for audience votes at Cagematch Improv. Held at the Havana Theatre.

       

      ARTS ET CETERA

      Janice Kerbel's Doug features musica intima vocalists who will lead the audience through a nine-song cycle of imagined disasters. Held at the Contemporary Art Gallery.

      An 80-minute live-painting competition sees five teams of two artists each compete for an exhibition at a local gallery. Held at Heritage Hall.

       

      LITERARY EVENTS

      Seven Dining Lounge hosts a night of music and spoken-word mashups that pay tribute to a variety of TV or film theme songs.

       

      MUSIC

      Canadian violinist David Stewart and pianist Jane Coop perform works by Grieg and Ysaÿe at the Kay Meek Centre.

      The Roy Barnett Recital Hall presents the debut concert of Vancouver's newest string quartet the Archytas String Quartet.

      City of Water, Sea of Glass is a performance installation of original percussion instruments coupled with world-premiere compositions. Held at the Waterfall Building.

      Canadian organist Ken Cowan performs music by Mendelssohn, Wagner, Bach, Mozart, and Vierne. Held at the Holy Rosary Cathedral.

       

      THEATRE

      The Party presents a new work of imaginary theatre that takes place in the dismal halls of a university. Held at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.

      It's your first chance to catch director Ron Reed's Common Grace at the Pacific Theatre.

       

      MOVIES

      The Richmond Cultural Centre screens director Sasha Snow's documentary Hadwin's Judgement.

      The Vancouver Short Film Festival features 23 short films from B.C. filmmakers, selected from over 180 submissions. Held at the Vancity Theatre.
