Supporters of Democratic presidential aspirant Bernie Sanders paint their man as a regular guy in comparison to the two front-running candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Trump has made billions marketing real estate over the years. Clinton generated a more modest income than Trump by delivering speeches.

However, the numbers are still pretty shocking for those who aren't used to the fees charged by big-time public speakers.

As an example, Clinton collected an honorarium of US$275,500 for speaking to the Vancouver Board of Trade in March 2014.

It doesn't look like the folks in Vancouver drove a particularly hard bargain. In other speeches that year, Clinton charged significantly less, according to figures posted in her financial-disclosure form.

However, the Vancouver Board of Trade wasn't at the top of the charts.

Clinton's most lucrative speeches in 2014 were to Cisco and the Biotechnology Industry Organization, which paid US$335,000 and US$325,000, respectively.
