On November 20, 7 p.m., Diego El Cigala comes to the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (6265 Crescent Road, UBC).

The Spanish-born flamenco singer-songwriter is known for his ability to meld the sounds of his Spanish Gitano heritage with other genres. In this concert, El Cigala will be showcasing the rhythms and melodies of salsa through works from his latest album Indestructible, which was released on October 28.

On the stage, the three-time Latin Grammy winner will be joined by pianist Jaime Calabuch "Jumitus", bassist Yelsy Heredia, trombonists Bernardo Aguirre and Richard Stella, trumpeters Carlos Martinez and Anibal Martinez, salsa vocalists Diego Giraldo and Giovanni Betancourt, timbale player David Marcano, and conga player Daniel Diaz.

As part of the Chan Centre Connects series, the public can also take part in a multimedia presentation on art and Roma self-representation (November 10 at the VIVO Media Arts Centre) and a pre-show talk by Shayna Plaut on how the Roma create music as a form of resistance and empowerment (November 20 at the Royal Bank Cinema).

Tickets for Diego El Cigala start at $54 and are available online or by calling 604-822-2697.
