Blind Dog Thompkins asks: what's your blues name?
Sometimes the internet can be really cool. Like last night, when it served up this little name-game thingie and caused me to laugh my ass off. It helps if you're crazy about the blues and nicknames both, I guess.
Like the blues, it's easy to play. You just match up the first initial of your first, middle, and last names with three words listed here to create a new, juke-joint-ready handle. I've got no problem at all with being called Blind Dog Thompkins. Heck, just call me BD for short. But the most fun comes with figuring out what other people's blues names are. Like maybe the folks you work with.
For example, no longer will I be referring to Georgia Straight acting movies editor Adrian Mack as "Mad Mack". Now he's just Fat Sugar Lee. And associate editor John Lucas isn't "Coolhand Lucas" anymore; he goes by the name of Boney Dog Parker. Music editor Mike Usinger has been called "Chucklebunch" for the last time. His new designation is--not too surprisingly--Jailhouse Lemon White.
Best of all, perhaps, is that the Straight's brave leader--owner and publisher Dan McLeod--will henceforth be known only as Old Legs Lee.
Well, it was nice workin' here.
