Dan Savage makes Oprah Winfrey magazine's O Wow! List

It wasn't his advice about selling sweat-soaked ginches, heteroflexible sugar babies, or a 50-year-old lesbian's ever-mushrooming clit that got him special attention from the big O.

No, as titillating as those topics are, what got Dan Savage, the internationally syndicated, self-proclaimed "potty-mouthed sex-advice columnist" of Savage Love fame, chosen as one of the 15 top achievers on the O Wow! List in Oprah Winfrey's O Magazine was something other than sex talk.

It was his It Gets Better project, created to inspire gay youth that there is life beyond the bullying of high school and to (pardon the Wham! reference) choose life, that caught the attention of O Magazine.

Believe it or not, over 25,000 videos have now been uploaded, including contributions celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Sarah Silverman, sports teams, companies, and even Hilary Clinton and President Barack Obama, since the project started in September 2010.

Savage joins the likes of singer-songwriter Björk, actor Edward Norton, tow surfer Maya Gabeira, National Resources Defense Council president Frances Beinecke, and honeybee researcher Marla Spivak on the O Wow! List, a collection of 15 of the most inspiring individuals (who are "dreamers, thinkers, and doers") from the past year.
