Vancouver New Music presents Richter 858, a musical celebration of painter Gerhard Richter’s 80th birthday at the Vancouver Playhouse (601 Hamilton Street) on Saturday (November 24).

Richter 858 is a series of compositions by guitarist Bill Frisell that were inspired by eight abstract paintings by Richter. The 858 Quartet turn these paintings into music during this live, multimedia event, which also features music from Sign of Life: Music for the 858 Quartet.

The show will be preceded by an artist chat with Bill Frisell, hosted by the Contemporary Art Gallery executive director Nigel Prince, starting at 7:15 p.m. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets to Richter858 are $35 for adults and $25 for students and seniors.
