The B.C. Lions have signed quarterback Travis Lulay to a two-year contract extension keeping the signal-caller in the Lions Den through the 2015 Canadian Football League season. Lulay was entering the final year of his current contract and there was some thought the Salem, Oregon native may pursue opportunities in the National Football League. But with today's deal—reported to be worth $450,000 per season—the 29-year-old has committed to the Lions and will now be counted on to lead them back to the Grey Cup.

Lulay was the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2011 when he led the Lions to a championship in his first full season as a starter. In addition, he was named MVP in the 2011 Grey Cup game leading the Lions to a 34-23 victory over Winnipeg at B.C. Place Stadium. This past season, the Montana State grad was bothered by a shoulder problem late in the year and wasn't able to guide the Leos back to the title game. Still, Lulay threw for 4,231 yards and 27 touchdowns and ran for 477 yards guiding the Lions to a 13-5 regular season record. In his two years as the starting pivot, Lulay is an impressive 24-12.

In the process, Lulay has become a face of the franchise on and off the field. He is actively involved in a number of community initiatives including the Lions campaign to combat domestic violence and he is a strong supporter of the local chapter of B.C. Special Olympics. Lulay and his wife Kim became first time parents last fall.

"To say I am excited about my future with the BC Lions would be an understatement," said Lulay in a team-issued release. "We have all the tools here to be competitive for a long time and the number one goal for me right now is doing everything I can to prepare for a championship season. Everyone in this organization, including coaches, teammates and staff as well as fans across the province have made my time here unforgettable and I know there are many more memories yet to come."

The Lions begin their training camp in June—2013 will the the organization's 60th year of existence.
