Toronto police have charged former CBC broadcaster with four counts of sexual assault and one count of choking a person to overcome resistance.

Ghomeshi is in custody and will appear at a bail hearing later today in Toronto.

In a news release, police stated that the 47-year-old former host of Q surrendered to authorities.

The charges came not long after Ghomeshi deleted social-media accounts, including a lengthy Facebook post in which he declared his innocence of any wrongdoing.

Yesterday, he withdrew a $55-million lawsuit against the CBC, which was filed the day after he was fired as the host of the radio show Q. He agreed to pay $18,000 to cover his former employer's legal costs.

The criminal probe began shortly after Trailer Park Boys actor Lucy DeCouture went public with allegations that Ghomeshi slapped and choked her without her consent.

Eight other women have also spoken to the media about Ghomeshi's allegedly abusive behaviour.

None of the claims has been proven in court.

This is promising news. Though one can never be too hopeful when it comes to punishment of sexual crimes. Look at the travesty in Nova Scotia with the R. Parson's case.

If Ghomeshi had gone to the spa for a massage & happy ending, he would still be working at the CBC and not be in the mess he's in now.

Best part of his bail conditions is that he has to live with his 72 year old mother and abide by her rules. LMAO

I agree with Tahitian Sunrise; Ghomeshi would have been a much happier, relaxed man had he gone to a spa to relieve his frustration & stress.

But Ghomeshi was probably too cheap to visit a spa. He's paying for it now, though.
