Pull out your raingear for the holiday weekend.

That's because Hurricane Oho is expected to bring heavy winds and lots of showers to the B.C. coast by the weekend.

It's creating havoc near Hawaii, but will lose power as it moves east several hundred miles toward North America.

The Weather Channel has reported that it's odd for a hurricane to travel in this direction for so many miles toward the northwest coast of the United States.

Environment Canada has issued public weather alerts for an area stretching from Northern Vancouver Island to the North Coast and Haida Gwaii.

Computer models have forecast 120 to 200 millimetres of rain from Friday (October 9) to Sunday (October 11) in this zone.

Vancouver may experience nearly 100 millimetres of rain over the Thanksgiving weekend.

KITV reports on the storm's movement.
