Vancouver's Jewish community was one of several targeted across North America with bomb threats this weekend.

According to Global BC News, an emailed message arrived at 9 a.m. on Sunday (March 12) to the Jewish Community Centre on West 41st Avenue.

The building was cleared but no explosives were found.

CNN has reported that similar threats were sent to four other Jewish centres in the United States.

They all occurred on Purim, which celebrates the defeat of a plan to kill all Jews in ancient Persia.

Following a similar threat last week in Vancouver, Mayor Gregor Robertson and Premier Christy Clark each issued statements denouncing anti-Semitism.
