On October 17th, Way Off-Broadway Wednesday presents Episode 1 of the feminist firsthand account of a badass pioneer woman. Honest, brutal, poetic, and quietly hilarious - the journals of Susanna Moodie are truly stranger than fiction - and arguably the most epic Canadian chronicle ever published.

In this recurring series, watch fiercely talented females bring to life her most famous memoir, Roughing It in the Bush, and be transported by the atmospheric live music soundscape from your WOW host, Devon More.

On October 17th, Susanna Moodie's original text has been adapted for interpretation by - and commentary from - 3 creative ladies who themselves are ALL emigrants to Canada:

Nic Enright-Morin is a writer and a stand-up comic who recently returned from performing at the month-long mecca of all Fringes in Edinburgh. She emigrated to Canada from the UK 18 years ago.

Fiona Koski is a community-engaged arts practitioner from Australia with a degree in contemporary dance, and a rich movement-based creative resume. She relocated to Canada in 2014.

Marylee Stephenson is a storyteller who emigrated to Canada from California in 1967. She claims to be the only lesbian comic with a Ph.D (in Sociology)..!

In Episode 1 of Roughing It in the Bush, after months at sea, the Moodies are traveling up the St Lawrence River in the brig Anne - but will rough weather, shipwrecks, a plague of cholera, and crooked customs officials prevent them from ever setting foot on Canadian soil?

Moodie's vivid and unique female settler's perspective takes historical nonfiction to an entirely new experiential level, with fierce female fixtures from the GVRD's diverse creative communities. The saga continues on November 7th, with Episode 2 featuring Tara Travis; and Episode 3, featuring Jess Amy Shead on November 28th.
