Live at the Gallery is a monthly concert series held at the Deer Lake Art Gallery. This month’s concert features artists Chris Blaber and Arthur Delahooke, at 7 pm on Friday, August 24th.

Live at the Gallery brings music into the gallery setting, to connect fans of visual and musical arts. The event is an exciting mix of art and sound, from the sweet sounds of classical music to chilled out beats of local folk bands. Expect the unexpected!

The Burnaby Arts Council is passionate about promoting the arts as a vital component of our city’s culture. We take great pleasure in offering this FREE music concert series and welcome you to the Deer Lake Art Gallery! Live at the Gallery is an opportunity for Deer Lake to have another regular venue for local musicians to play and local enthusiasts to listen. It also provides an opportunity to subvert the often rigid structure of an art gallery by having an interactive presentation being held within it.

Chris Blaber is a percussionist and composer dedicated to presenting collaborative, interdisciplinary, improvised, and contemporary works. He’s passionate about incorporating multiple elements of performance – including choreography, narration, singing, and acting – into unified, innovative productions. Holding both a Bachelors in Fine Arts with distinction in Music Composition from Simon Fraser University (British Columbia) and a diploma in percussion performance from Douglas College (British Columbia), Chris also performs as a freelance percussionist in Vancouver with numerous groups including orchestras, musical theater, rock groups, jazz, and Javanese Gamelan.

Arthur Delahooke is a professional drummer out of Vancouver BC specializing in genres such as pop, rock, jazz, latin, world and avant-gaurd. He started drumming at the tender age of nice and is currently completing his Bachelor's of Applied Music Degree at VCC, with a major in Drums and Performance and a minor in Composition. Arthur has had the privilege of studying with some of Vancouver's best drummers including Bernie Arai, Craig Scott, Liam MacDonald, and has studied composition with Paul Plimley and Alan Matheson. A busy musician, he currently plays in four bands and gigs in greater Vancouver and teaches at Long and McQuade in North Vancouver and privately.
