Some Vancouverites take Tom Petty's lyrics a little too literally at GM Place

Petty shows up onstage with blue jeans and a Strat and heads right into "Kings Highway", then follows with the rambling (in a good way) "You Don't Know How it Feels", and a few folks take the line about rolling another joint to heart by lighting up. Can you blame them? It's Tom freakin' Petty! Oh, here comes my older sister's theme song, "I Won't Back Down". Let the good times roll.

Georgia Straight music writer Steve Newton is posting items of interest from tonight's (June 8) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers concert at GM Place in Vancouver. Check out the full review tomorrow at www.straight.com/music.

I'd rather have someone smoking a doobie next to me than someone doodling around on his new super-bright LED-backlit blackberry, twittering, updating facebook and recording jittery cellphone videos for youtube.

You said it Birdy, I can't fathom the need for people to record shyte video on their phones instead of truly feeling the music and listening with concentration. What a waste

I'll take five to ten minutes out of a one to two hour show to record some video. I agree that it takes you out of the moment but it's worth it to have that permanent keepsake.
