Dances for a Small Stage at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts

Dances for a Small Stage is so closely associated with its digs at the Grandview Legion on the Drive that it’s hard to imagine it stepping out to go anywhere else. But the Movent show is making an exception this weekend on Friday and Saturday nights (September 23 and 24), when it’s showing at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, kicking off the Burnaby venue’s Live at the ’Bolt series. And sorry kids: you won’t be seeing this lineup at the East Van location. Among the draws that should help pull you out to Deer Lake Park is an appearance by well-known local dancer-choreographer Cori Caulfield, who hasn’t brought her signature humour and style to a local stage in a long time. On these nights, she’ll be performing a piece with Jonathan Ryder that sends up competitiveness and the running commentary you hear during pro sports. Elsewhere on the program are dancers like Léon Feizo-Gas, Karissa Barry, and Robert Mitchell. And yes, the stage is still small: performances take place in the centre’s atrium.
