The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors Chor Leoni’s All is Calm

Chor Leoni Men’s Choir presents All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton Street) from December 19 to 21. Performances start at 8 p.m. on all three nights, plus matinee shows at 3 p.m. (sold out) and 5 p.m. on December 20 and 21.

Chor Leoni marks the 100th anniversary of All is Calm, a fully staged a cappella musical written and directed by Peter Rothstein, with musical arrangements by Erick Lichte and Timothy C. Takach.

The musical recalls the remarkable and spontaneous World War I truce when allied and German soldiers laid down their arms to celebrate the holiday together.

This dramatic retelling includes actual quotes and excerpts from letters written by 30 World War I figures brought to life by local actors Ashley O’Connell, John Innes and Gordon Roberts.

The performance will also feature period songs and timeless carols, such as “Angels We Have Heard on High”, “O Holy Night”, and “Silent Night”.

Tickets to All is Calm are $15 to $37 and available online in advance.
