Got Craft: Five15's eclectic accessories cater to animal lovers and feminists

In anticipation of Got Craft?’s 10th-anniversary spring edition, taking place on May 6 and 7 at the Maritime Labour Centre (1880 Triumph Street), we’re getting to know some of the fair’s 75-plus independent designers and makers.

Today, we meet Angie Coates, graphic designer and owner of Five15.

      Who are you?

Hello! I am Angie Coates. I am a local graphic designer and the owner of Five15.

      What do you do?

I design "flair" (think pins, vinyl stickers, keychains, buttons, embroidered patches, etc.) for animal lovers, feminists, and positive people. My goal is to design products that mean something, and it’s also important to me that we always give back. That’s why I select a nonprofit related to each of my products and donate part of the proceeds to them.

One of Angie Coates's favourite Five15 products is the Full-Time Feminist sticker.

What's your favourite item you stock?

That’s a hard question! I guess I am emotionally attached to our Dog Mom pin. It was the very first product I’ve ever made. I designed it soon after we rescued our adorable dog, Meatball. Part of the proceeds of this pin support the dog rescue that saved her from a kill shelter and brought her to us, PB & Chi.

I also love the Full-Time Feminist pin and sticker. It feels very relevant to who I am and the type of impact I hope to have in our community. I’ve selected different nonprofits that support women such as the Vancouver Women’s Health Collective in the DTES and Girlvana Yoga to donate part of the proceeds from these products.

What products will you offer at Got Craft?

I am super excited to bring our entire collection to the market! We’ll also have some limited-edition designs and packs that will be available at the market only. Plus, I am sharing a booth with artist and illustrator Geoff Coates, who also happens to be my husband. So you’ll get to see some of his cool products and work, too.

What I am looking forward to the most is connecting with our visitors! It’s only at markets that we really get the chance to have that personal interaction with those who support our products, so I am also really looking forward to that.

Tickets to Got Craft? are $3 in advance online or $5 at the door. For more information about the event, or to purchase tickets, click here.
