I heard somewhere that your rent should be equivalent to one week's pay. That is not the case here for me since The Olympics.

Dan offers some advice on where she might find it.
I'm riding my red mountain bike near rice lake on a tight section of trail. Going slow...

My West End 1 bedroom flat on Bidwell used to cost 150 per month; and my UIC paid me 110 dollars per week to pay for it. Meanwhile, I was also in this punk band but that's another story.
Coastal cities

Housing costs are high in coastal cities. Maybe my housing would be one week's pay in Saskatoon, but not in Vancouver. I've been paying $1680/month for the last 10 years in Vancouver. Thankfully paying a mortgage, not rent.

In the 90's rooms around The Drive were $250-400 and minimum wage was around $8...

Basically minimum wage has stayed the same while housing costs have gone up by 700%-1000%. I grew up here and I have never wanted to leave more than I do now. My mouldy dank apartment on the drive costs me $1050/mo and if my rent was only a week's pay it would be about 10% of that. If everyone really wanted change we'd make it happen but young people are apathetic and don't vote or do anything to change the status quo. We're all too busy working just trying to keep our heads above water. I think I'd be happier living in a village somewhere in South America making sandwiches.
