No. Talking is worse. Especially the loud "I was at this party last night and 'so and so' like totally grabbed my box" conversations. If you really care about the people seated around you, keep the lurid details of your private life to yourself.

You know those guys on the bus who crack a beer and chat with people? I chat with them. It doesn't bug me, but I can tell it makes a lot of people upset. Then, I cut my teeth chatting on IRC, and the bus is nothing compared with Efnet =]. You think that's lurid? Pfft.

This idea that "if you care, you will act like a quiet robot," I just don't buy it.
