Former Vancouver park board commissioner Stuart Mackinnon is jumping into provincial politics.

The Green Party of B.C. announced today (April 12) that Mackinnon will be its candidate in Vancouver-Fraserview.

“Fraserview deserves better,” Mackinnon said in a party news release. “I want to give the people of Fraserview a choice in this election. I want to fight for a better tomorrow for Fraserview and all the people of British Columbia by offering them a clean, bright future based on sustainability and green ideals.”

Mackinnon served as a Green Party of Vancouver park commissioner from 2008 to 2011.

According to the release, Mackinnon resides in the Fraserlands neighbourhood and teaches at Killarney secondary school. He also sits on the board of the VanDusen Botanical Garden Association and is a former president of the Society Promoting Environmental Conservation.

Vancouver-Fraserview is represented by outgoing B.C. Liberal MLA Kash Heed. The B.C. Liberals are running Suzanne Anton, while the NDP's nominee is Gabriel Yiu.
