RCMP have launched a criminal investigation into a fatal crash involving four vehicles in North Vancouver.

At about 3:45 p.m. on January 9, a 63-year-old Vancouver man was driving southbound along a segment of Highway 1, which is commonly referred to as "the cut", and became involved in a collision.

One of the vehicles crossed the median, crashed into two other vehicles, and then returned down the westbound lane of the Upper Levels Highway, according to a CBC News report.

The Vancouver resident died in the collision and the other drivers and passengers sustained minor injuries.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Traffic was diverted on the highway for several hours as evidence was collected for the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to call the Port Mann Highway Patrol at 604-526-9744 (the reference file number for this case is 2017-115).
