NDP veteran Shane Simpson reelected in Vancouver-Hastings

      It shaping up as a very close B.C. election.

      One of the NDP's veterans, Shane Simpson, has been reelected in Vancouver-Hastings.

      He has nearly 60 percent of the vote with 21 of 88 ballot boxes counted. In second place is B.C. Liberal Jane Spitz, followed by Green candidate David H.T. Wong.

      The B.C. Liberals are leading in 43 constituencies where the B.C. NDP are winning in 41. The B.C. Greens are ahead in one seat, Saanich North and the Islands. There are no ballot boxes counted in Oak Bay–Gordon Head, which has been represented by the B.C. Green leader, Andrew Weaver.

      There are 87 seats in the B.C. legislature, which means a party must win 44 to gain a majority.

      So far, the B.C. Liberals have 43 percent of the popular vote, compared to 39 percent for the NDP.
