Modern Creatures part of Sook-Yin Lee's feature film directorial debut

Local three-piece Modern Creatures found itself going from the Emergency Room to the silver screen after former Vancouverite Sook-Yin Lee discovered the band on MySpace.

“This lady contacted us and said ”˜Sook-Yin is doing this movie and thought she might want to use your songs, can you send a few?' ” vocalist-bassist Nikki Never told the Straight.

Never dutifully sent along “Time to Go” and “The Inside”, and Lee got back to her two months later, saying, “Okay, we'll give you a little bit of money, and do you wanna come and work on the set?” The film marks Lee's feature-film directorial debut, while Never's bandmates, bassist Jeremiah Haywood and drummer Michael Taylor, ended up in front of the camera as part of the film's fictitious band No Fun. Coproducer Kryssta Mills told the Straight that Year of the Carnivore is scheduled for theatrical release in summer 2010.
