TV on the Radio at the Commodore

The most amazing thing about New York’s TV on the Radio is that, unlike most of the bands who exploded out of Brooklyn at the start of the last decade, they never really went away. Think about it. The Strokes dropped off the face of the earth for a good half-decade before resurfacing earlier this year with Angles. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have pretty much been missing in action since 2009’s It’s Blitz!, which never really seemed to get off the ground. And if anyone has heard where Liars are residing today, please write in and let us know. TV on the Radio, on the other hand, have seemingly been humming right along ever since blowing our minds with their 2003 breakout EP, Young Liars. Assuming you haven’t already been indoctrinated into the cult of TVOTR—which plays the Commodore Ballroom on Wednesday and Thursday (July 20 and 21)—we know what you’re thinking: the band’s mix of, well, everything is too far into art-star territory to be accessible to the common folks. To that, all we have to say is if you haven’t seen the band’s all-out hypnotic live show, it’s not too late to clamber aboard the bandwagon. There’s a reason TV on the Radio have never dropped off anyone’s radar.
