eurocentrism - focus on Europe and European culture...market and a central focal point of the rest of the world. My terminology was a pun. self-centered eurocentrism. OP appears to be something of an ass but I think he would say that your plaintive protest only proves his point: Germans are European, after all.

What makes the apparent direction of his post silly is that it is so terribly myopic (and temporal-centric) in scope. If this were another century in a different part of the world we could well offer the same qualified character measures against the Chinese, the Japanese, the Mongols, the Russians, the Iranians (Persians) and virtually every other culture that ever enjoyed a period of empire and expansion.

One (meaning; he, the OP) might counter that never before has such occurred on such a massive scale (marauding, plundering, etc.) but, of course, this is due only to technological advancement in travel, weaponry and so on - not some peculiar lack of humanity or tendency towards navel-gazing on the part of Europeans.

Of course, this is assuming that these are his complaints. Maybe he just dislikes sauerkraut, Yorkshire pudding and spaghetti? I don't know. And, honestly, I don't care all that much.

Aaaand now, given that I'm now officially bored with this, I'm going to stop typing.

Oddly, it occurs to me just seconds after I posted the last comment that he may be on to something... (yes, the new thought peaked my interest again, briefly).

He is European, after all, and he is, seemingly, focusing only on the crimes of those of his own general genotype so it does suggest that there may be something to his hypothesis. Or maybe he's just a dick that believes selectively focusing on the crimes of one group will provide him with measure of merit with their victims.

Who knows? It could also be that he's just not as smart as he thinks he is and he has genuine compassion for the victims of European economic expansionism. It is real - even if offering absurd statements about the nature of Europeans only exposes a certain sort of myopia.

Ok, pretty sure that's all I care to say about it now.

Puns, sarcasm and being taken too literally? That' too is my experience with a couple of confessions I posted here a long while ago. Whilst there are some great people posting here with excellent comments (Straight Confessions in general not this thread) far too many readers steel to miss puns, sarcasm and really take things very literally!
