Servers get minimum wage. Most of their income comes from tips. My friend is always cheerful and strives to give great service. She is in medical school and the tuition is 100,000 dollars. Please think of supporting someone who is also in need of income, including servers. Some also have children to support.
Btw, servers have to "tip out" the cook, busser, and hostess about 10% of their tips. If you tip anything less than 10%, you are actually costing them money to wait on you. Most people not involved in the industry are not aware of this. (I was not). Everything is on computer, so you can't cheat and keep more. Please consider a change of heart and start tipping if the service has been good.
Maybe your karma will be having her as your surgeon someday when you are ill, as she is a straight A student and works hard to learn.

If he gets $0 in tips, 10% of zero is zero. So the server doesn't have to tip out the cook, etc., since he didn't get anything, isn't? Why do you say that customers are costing him money to wait on them? It's just tips/revenue sharing, not a cost. I don't get it.

I do know that servers usually get a lower wage than the rest of employees because they are supposed to get tips as part of their pay. I also support giving tips as an incentive for servers to provide better service.

Its 10% of their total. 15% expected being a 100% of their total tips. And 10% of that means they tip out the kitchen, busser and bartender 1.5$ of tips combined.

Which is a joke, from someone who was a cook in their youth. 1.5% spread around among that many people while the servers get to keep the remaining 13.5%/15% tip is a joke. Cooks get paid nearly minimum wage. Have the job of cleaning the kitchen , cooking the food and maybe get $1/hr extra on top of their $10-13.hr wage. While servers are getting paid on average $10-20 on top of their $10 hr/wage.

Tipping a server anything over %1.5 of your bill.. they are making money.

Servers dont deserve what they get. And you need to learn some math.

I rarely go to places that expect big tips. I'd rather go where you mainly serve yourself or they don't expect much like a shawarma, pizza, sushi, Mexican, sandwich shop. Usually the tip is just for show.
If it's exceptionally good or they are friendly I'll throw spare change in the tip jar, not add another $8 on my credit card
