I don't know what to do.

I recently got a new job that pays considerably more than my last one. And guess what! I hate it. I come home at the end of the day wanting to just lay in my bed and not do anything. I keep telling myself if I get a good nights sleep I will feel better the next day. But I don't feel better, because I dreamt about my new job . It's a big company and everyone has worked there for 12+ years, and all I hear when I go in is people complaining about it. When I first got hired on someone laughed and told me good luck having a life if you work here. I don't know what to do, because it pays very well but I hate the job itself. I have very little education and I am lucky I got hired on. I'm just debating whether I should tough it out or pursue what I actually want to do.

Tough It Out

Do it for the money. "I work to live, I don't live to work".

Don't sacrifice your well-being for cash

Money doesn't make people happy. Having a good life, having enough, having rewarding relationships and experiences can certainly help make people happy.
If you don't love your job, it can drain the crap out of you. I suggest you create an exit plan. Start applying for new jobs. Save every penny you have so you have a cushion to fall back on. And sign up for online or night classes so your education isn't holding you back career-wise. A plan can give you a feeling of control, and that can be the first step back towards well-being.

Of course you should pursue what you really want to do!

Especially because the way you described it sounds like you know what that is. Many people do not and feel stuck in jobs they hate but have no clue where to even start. You're already on the right track!

Nothing wrong with those who choose to "work to live" but if you spend most of your time in a job you hate and the rest of the time worrying about or dreading it, your life will suck. No matter how awesome your weekends or yearly vacation are.

“Do what you love and love what you do. If someone tells you to do something for money, tell them to go to hell.”

The Plan

Do it for 1 year (250 days). Kick butt. Take them for all the education, quality, technical and in-industry training you can get your hands on. At the 8 month mark, engage with head hunters and get into a company that has a good work atmosphere and good pay. You will likely be taking a step even higher in pay., but this time with work enjoyment.

The Plan has a good plan - use them for a bit, then curb em quick. Most of never get to do what we love for a living, but you shouldn't do what you hate either.

Excellent advice. Rock solid.

One year commitment (a mere 250 days as The Plan so eloquently outlines) , short term pain, for long-term gain.

run!

I got sucked in to that cubicle hell nightmare for nearly 6 years. Ended up hating the place so much it impacted my "performance". Long story short, fired without cause, given severance package. Now I'm following my dreams. Please leave as soon as you can. Don't waste more than one year of your life working with a bunch of soul sucking tyrants. Do you want to live, or do you want to survive? Staying there isn't living my friend ;) good luck.

Try and save some money now if you can and then run, run like the wind! Get out of there!
