You've become like your job.

Over the years you've become a typical ICBC employee. You can't tell lies from reality just like ICBC. You have a sense of self-entitlement just like your co-workers. You overvalue what your do and what you provide to others just like ICBC. I feel like I have no choice just like the people of BC. If there was competition you would not last !

You know that most of the public never deals with ICBC employees. You buy your ICBC insurance from an insurance broker who is required to sell the product if they happen to deal in auto insurance. The BS and price increases is all ICBC, but the poor people at the front line who have to deal with Joe Public's abuse don't deserve it. So keep that in mind.

If there was competition

Then the lawyers would win (most collisions result in lawyers contesting fault); investors would win (they're in it for profits); the customers would lose (after potentially good deals to under cut ICBC and drive them out of business (i.e. reduce competition)).

The competitors would not invest in intersection redesign based upon collision stats, nor would they invest in world-class research into child car seats to reduce expensive injuries.

Remember, Gordo tried to fiddle with ICBC and even his right-of-centre cohort advised against it and the plan fizzled.

I do recognise that no-one loves their insurance company, but some are way worse than others. ICBC is among the best.

The OP's acquaintance, the ICBC employee, may well be a complete jerk of course - I can't really comment on that.

Scammers

Blame the people who are too busy working the system to their advantage. If people who are insured would stop being greedy (or stop being completely dishonest, for that matter), the system would work just fine in theory. But you have people who treat accidents like a long con, hoping that their sixth rear ender will be the payout they've been looking for, instead of just working at a job or two jobs or three jobs like the rest of us do.
