I want him back. Only I want him to make the effort to want to fix things and be sincere or else what's the point?

With guys, actions speak louder than words.
If he ain`t working it, he don`t want it.
Give up on him, and find someone else.
Who will no doubt be mil times better!

Go fix yourself, then go try to fix what YOU broke off. No idea why he would want to bother with you now. But go ahead and try if you want. You'd likely be wasting your time though.

I have a firm belief in the perfectability of people, particularly when all that is needed is seasoning and a grip on reality.
But these changes have to come from within. Anyone who could be readily shaped by a spouse either has no internal drivers and thus is more of a pet than a partner, or is feigning change to placate you.
You want the man that you know he could be. But he has to want that too. If he doesn't, then he won't. It's as simple as that.
And yes, fuck him for being an intransigent stubborn fool.

Think about how hard it is to change something about yourself. Then use that to realize how utterly impossible it is to try changing someone else.
