Beer made with vegetables? Steamworks Killer Cucumber Ale returns in tall cans

Fruit and beer have been partners in crime for quite some time now, but it's not often that we see breweries adding veggies to the mix.

Thanks to Steamworks, there's another way to get those greens into your diet: the brewery’s Killer Cucumber Ale is back on the shelves for a second year in a row.

First released in April 2015, the beer was initially available in six packs, but this season, the veggie-infused beer comes in travel-friendly tall cans.

The cult classic is a light summer ale, "dry hopped" with cucumbers. A wheat malt base combines with notes of citrus and hops, while the cuke flavour kicks in almost instantaneously.

Finished off with Belgian yeast and a tinge of apricot and black pepper, this medium-light bodied brew boasts high carbonation, making it a stellar beer to enjoy on a hot summer day.

At 4.5 percent ABV and 25 IBUs, it's an all-day drinker that would pair almost too well with a float on the lake or a sunny afternoon in the park.

The limited release will be available in select private liquor stores, on-tap in a few local bars and restaurants, and of course at the Steamworks taproom in Burnaby (3845 William Street).
