Stephen Hamm and Terry Russell launch Waddayagonnado podcast

A quarter of a century ago, Stephen Hamm and Terry Russell were terrorizing Vancouver together with the band Slow. Now they’re trying to “figure out what the hell to do with the rest of our lives”, as Hamm told the Straight, a question they—along with some auspicious friends like Chris Walter and Grant Lawrence—have chosen to address on their new podcast, Waddayagonnado.

Hamm said they invited the former Smuggler and CBC personality to give them tips on interviewing people. But also, he explained, “I wanted to know how’d he got from the frickin’ Smugglers to running CBC 3. Listen to the podcast, you’ll find out.”

The Lawrence segment airs in two weeks. Before that, Waddayagonnado is joined by comedian and harm-reduction advocate Donovan Patrick Mahoney. Anyone with an interest in Vancouver’s music history, meanwhile, should check out the duo’s first episode, from November 15, where they shoot the shit about their 30-plus years of playing together. “We talk about the first time we cleared a room, which was at Queen Mary Elementary School,” said Hamm. “From there on, we decided this is what we’re gonna do with our lives: fuckin’ clear rooms! That segued nicely into Slow at Expo.”
