Anaïs Mitchell may not be a familiar name here, but across the pond the Vermont-based singer-songwriter is considered new folk royalty.

Last year’s Child Ballads with fellow acoustic guitarist Jefferson Hamer bagged her a BBC Folk Award for its new take on ancient songs and ballads of England and Scotland. The pair played to a sold-out Royal Albert Hall.

Mitchell is currently touring North America performing material from her latest release, xoa—which consists of new songs as well as some from her back catalogue—and comes to the CBC’s Studio 700 this Thursday (September 11).
