Chris Cornell's death last night has been declared a suicide by hanging by the Wayne County Medical Examiners in Detroit.

The 52-year-old Soundgarden frontman was found unresponsive after midnight in his hotel room in the MGM Grand in Detroit. The pioneering grunge band has played a show in the Motor City earlier that evening.

Police were called to his hotel room by a family friend who was checking in on the singer.

The cause of death has been determined as hanging by suicide. A full autopsy report has not yet been completed. There is no additional information at this time."
