One of the most enduring acts of the fabled early ’90s alt-rock boom, Weezer will play Rogers Arena on October 5, with the Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. providing support. The Vancouver stop is part of the Voyage to the Blue Planet tour, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the band’s self-titled debut.

Weezer will perform the entire record—known as The Blue Album—front-to-back, one of the great things about that being you’ll know exactly where “Buddy Holly” will be played in the set.

Tickets go on sale March 15 at 10am.

Considered one of the greatest albums of the ’90s, Weezer’s debut sold over 15 million copies worldwide, spawning the hits “Undone – The Sweater Song”, “Buddy Holly”, and “Say It Ain’t So”. In addition to making the group an MTV staple, the record helped blow open the doors for what was considered “alternative rock” at a time when grunge was the primary cultural touchstone.

In the decades that have followed, Weezer has proven one of the longest-running success stories of the era, with songs including “Hash Pipe”, “Islands in the Sun”, “Beverly Hills”, and “Pork and Beans” proving staples at rock radio and your favourite karaoke bar.

As for the inclusion of the Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr., consider that not only an appreciative nod to one of the most fantastically weird eras in rock ’n’ roll, but also proof that sometimes Christmas comes early.
