Kathy Griffin coming back to Vancouver

Kathy Griffin—what’s not to love about her?

The enjoyably acerbic comedian has taken over Joan Rivers’ place in pop culture as the loud-mouth who tells it like it is. Of course, the “it” refers to Hollywood, where it’s hard to know what can be taken at face value.

Griffin dishes it all out, but what I like about her is not so much the celebrity content but the fact that she’s so frank. Unlike the types that are sweet and pleasant to your face but passive-aggressively bitchy and assholish behind your back, she’s up front with her opinions and thoughts, no matter how inappropriate or offensive they might be.

But there’s something about her personality that I find more appealing than Sarah Silverman. It’s something to do with her infectious enthusiasm.

Of course, she’s got the fag-hag thing going on too, but Margaret Cho does too and I find Griffin more interesting than Cho (aside from Cho’s killer impersonations of her mother).

Griffin will be back in Vancouver on Saturday (January 10) at the River Rock in Richmond.

In honour of her arrival, and in case you missed it, here’s a clip from her hosting New Year’s Eve on CNN with Anderson Cooper (who she loves) where she flips out on a heckler:

On a different note, I stumbled across this oddly flirtatious exchange between Cooper (who Griffin adores) and Ryan Seacrest (who she hates and makes jokes about being a closet case). Check it out and see what you think.
