Rapture Metro Pack should renew interest in BioShock 2 multiplayer

Have you, thus far, skipped the multiplayer offerings of BioShock 2? New downloadable content should renew collective interest in the game, and lobbies will be full again. Maybe now is your time.

Released today (May 11), the Rapture Metro Pack for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sells for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points. The add-on features six new multiplayer maps, and also adds three new trophies/achievements and a Rebirth option (which is essentially a “Prestige Mode”) for players who have run out of things to unlock.

Those who previously completed the grind required to unlock all trophies/achievements in the game (cough) may find themselves feeling either excited or entrapped by this development. There are repercussions for ignoring the DLC. It includes new unlockables, and if you don’t unlock them, you won’t have your “100% complete” distinction for BioShock 2 anymore.

But at least level-grinding Rapture style is pretty mellow. In sharp contrast to multiplayer shooters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3, whose airwaves are filled with angry, hormonal teens who call you horrible names when you shoot down their Harriers, BioShock 2 has a cartoony, carefree energy, while still providing enough variety and depth to stay fun until you level out. You tend to hear a lot of laughing and joking (and more than a few female voices) on the mike.
