More than half of B.C. voters sent in HST referendum ballots

      Elections B.C. says more than 1.6 million British Columbians voted in the referendum on the harmonized sales tax.

      According to the electoral body, there were 3,063,170 registered voters as of July 22.

      That puts the voter turnout at around 52 percent.

      Acting chief electoral officer Craig James said today (August 11) that the estimated cost of the mail-in referendum is $8.9 million, down from the original budget of $12 million.

      Elections B.C. expects to release the HST referendum results on or around August 25.

      In 2002, 790,182 ballots were cast in the province's referendum on treaty negotiations.

      Didn't receive a ballot. Called, still didn't get one. Ridiculous way to hold a vote.
