Another yay for gays as Canada recognizes international same-sex marriages

One more step forward for Canadian gay rights and social progress in Canada ...

Bill Siksay MP (Burnaby-Douglas), NDP spokesperson for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Rights proposed a motion last December regarding the Canadian government's interim policy on same-sex marriage. The policy didn't recognize legal lesbian and gay marriages performed in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, South Africa, and Massachusetts.

Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Diane Finley informed the Standing Committee of Citizenship and Immigration that the policy is now annulled.

Lesbian and gay couples married abroad will now be recognized in spousal and family class immigration sponsorship applications.

Yay!
