Arts Club Theatre Company announces cast and creative team for Kim's Convenience

      The Arts Club Theatre Company has announced the cast and creative team for its production of Ins Choi's Kim's Convenience, which runs from February 24 to March 27 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

      The cast will feature James Yi as Mr. Kim, Andrew Creightney as Rich/Mr. Lee/Mike/Alex, Brianna Kim as Janet, Howie Lai as Jung, and Maki Yi as Umma.

      Kim's Convenience is one of those special plays that surprises the audience by hitting them on so many levels emotionally," say Yi in a press release issued today. "One minute you're laughing hysterically, and the next minute you're fighting back tears and wondering why you haven't called your dad. 

      "It's special because it hits home with every single person in the audience," he adds, "no matter what race, gender, or age.”

      The creative team will include director Kaitlin Williams, assistant director Soran Nakai, set designer Carolyn Rapanos, costume designer Jessica Oostergo, lighting designer Jonathan Kim, sound designer Chengyan Boon, fight director Mike Kovac, and assistant stage-manager Peter Jotkus.

      Kim’s Convenience was originally produced as part of the 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival before being adapted into a television series for CBC and Netflix. The Arts Club first staged Kim’s Convenience in 2014.

      Showtimes for the upcoming production will be Tues-Thurs. at 7:30 pm, Fri-Sat. at 8 pm, Wed. at 1:30 pm, and Sat-Sun. at 2 pm. Special performances include Sunday Salon (March 6, 2 pm); Tuesday Talkback (March 15, 7:30 pm); VocalEye Performances (March 20, 2 pm; and March 25, 8 pm); Relaxed Performance (March 20, 7 pm); and ASL Performance (March 23, 7:30 pm).
