The Improv Centre brings deliciously unhinged comedy to the stage in April

Prep yourself for an ab workout, Vancouver. Granville Island’s The Improv Centre has announced its gut-busting shows for the month of April.

On top of its weekly mainstays Choose-Day (Tuesdays at 7:30pm, in which audiences get to choose the who, what, and why of the improv shows); and Date Night (Wedenesdays at 7:30pm, in which everything to do with love and heartbreak is on the menu), the 186-seat theatre and bar will host a bevy of comedic gigs next month.

Kicking it all off is Turn It Up! on April 11, a show that will draw on the crowd’s aural tastes—from their favourite podcasts and radio shows to bands and musicians.

Next up, on April 17, Set List with Ben and Anton is an evening of musical comedy as Ben Elliott and Anton Lipovetsky bust out improvised songs based on audience suggestions. The show will be hosted by Mark Chavez in an Inside the Actors Studio meets Behind The Music style.

Then, on April 19, The Improv Centre reduxes its own format in Theatresports: Unhinged, in which absolutely anything goes as improv teams battle it out between unscripted comedy prompts. Players are allowed to cheat, and the hosts can pull their own snafus. Excellent.

Wrapping up the month’s offering on April 28 is Stand-Up at The Improv, featuring a yet-to-be-announced lineup of local and touring standup comedians sounding off with their most side-splitting material. Vancouver comedian Lukas Purm hosts.

Tickets for all shows are available here.
