Capilano University’s Blueshore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts has announced its upcoming season, with notable shows featuring a Grammy-nominated former David Bowie sideman, a tribute to Bob Dylan’s inconic Highway 61, and one of Tom Waits’ favourite hired guns.

The 2023/2024 season will feature 16 concerts and seven plays taking place between September and next spring.

Things kick off on September 24 with the appearance of saxophonist and composer Donny McCaslin—known for both his solo work and orchestration of Bowie’s final record Blackstar.

An all-star cast of local musicians—including Barney Bentall, Steve Dawson, and Dawn Pemberton—comes together to pay homage to one of Dylan's greatest works with Highway 61 Re-Imagined on October 13 to 14.

And guitarist Marc Ribot, famous for his collaborations with everyone from boho legend Tom Waits to improv giant Jon Zorn, brings his Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog project to Vancouver on October 16.

As for the rest of the shows, expect everything from Quebec folk heroes La Vent du Nord, to jazz icon Kate McGarry, to genre-mashing LA partystarters Las Cafeteras.

Other acts playing the season include Abigail Lapell, Kym Gouchie, Le Vent du Nord, Yungchen Lhamo, and Naadaleela.

On the theatre side of things, programming will be split between CapU Theatre productions (Weasel, Clue, The Cherry Orchard, and SpongeBob the Musical) and Arts Club on Tour shows (The Birds and the Bees, Beneath Springhill: The Maurice Ruddick Story, and Made in Italy.)
