Stanley Cup spotted on West Georgia Street

The Stanley Cup was finally hoisted on West Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver. But not for the reason that Canucks fans would like.

Los Angeles Kings defenceman Willie Mitchell, a former Canuck, spent Saturday night at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia before heading to his hometown of Port McNeill with Lord Stanley's chalice.

Inside the hotel, diners at Hawksworth Restaurant and those hanging around 1927 lobby lounge and Reflections outdoor terrace all got a glimpse of Mitchell with the cup.

Mitchell, once one of the most popular Canucks, suffered a brutal concussion in the 2009–10 season. General manager Mike Gillis only offered him a one-year deal after he was well enough to return to the ice.

Canucks fans can only hope that the next time the Stanley Cup enters a downtown Vancouver hotel, it's being carried by a current member of their team.
