You Nearly Missed: MiniComi 2023 brings local artists to the table

Cute, geeky, quirky, or whimsical: whatever your taste, MiniComi 2023 is bringing a plethora of local artists and creatives to offer you the perfect cute knick knack to add to your shelf or print to hang on your wall.

Organized by the Vancouver Society for the Creation of Independent Art, MiniComi is part arts and crafts market and part anime convention.

Starting out as a student organization at the University of British Columbia in 2011, the event has since grown to an annual day-long affair held at The Pipe Shop in North Vancouver, with over 130 artists peddling their wares at the 2018 iteration.

The 2023 market takes place on July 8 from 11am to 6pm, offering up independent art from dozens of local creatives.

Cosplayers are welcome, and many of the participating artists are influenced by manga, video games, and table-top RPGs. The market’s own mascots are two waifish anime characters, and an adorable blue origami cat.

If any of that sounds like your jam, then it’s time to wander around the aisles and wonder whether you should have gotten more cash out from the ATM.
