The organizers of a Kids N' Queens event this afternoon (July 27) are worried that they'll be confronted by a right-wing fundamentalist demonstration at an event for children.

"Kids N' Queens is a joyful, family oriented event that reflects the diversity of our community through books, music, and activities," the organizers wrote in a public statement distributed over the Vancouver Pride Society's Facebook page. "The event fuels children's imagination and their understanding of the world around them."

According to them, people from a group called Culture Guard are planning to show up and hold a demonstration.

"We ask that you stand with us at Gordon Neighborhood House (1019 Broughton Street) at 1:30pm on Saturday July 27th to show these protesters that love always wins!!" the Kids N' Queens organizers wrote in their statement.

Culture Guard has protested in the past the against the SOGI 123 program in B.C. schools and the flying of the rainbow flag at the Surrey RCMP detachment.

In June, Christian fundamenlists—including People's Party of Canada candidate Laura-Lynn Thompson—were met with a counterprotest on the south side of the Vancouver Art Gallery when they gathered in opposition to a B.C. Supreme Court ruling.

The judge's decision permitted a 14-year-old transgender boy to have hormone injections without the consent of his parents.
