Ashton College’s new education assistant (EA) program makes gaining employment within the education field more attainable than ever—you don’t even need to leave your couch.

This is a fantastic way to obtain a meaningful work without spending years at a university.

The program consists of 720 hours of online coursework and webinars that are held twice a week. Students must be able to devote a minimum of 15 hours per week to the program.

If you think you might lack the motivation needed to complete coursework from home, both the Abbotsford (#110—30475 Cardinal Avenue) and Vancouver (Third floor—1190 Melville Street) campuses offer the program in-class.

Students who graduate with an EA diploma can apply for jobs at private schools and public school districts, childcare centres, summer camps, and other places where learning occurs.

When working at a school, EAs can team up with teachers in a classroom setting and monitor students during recess and lunch breaks. EAs are also able to work in respite care, after-school tutoring, and within home-support teams for children with special needs.

Many of the employment opportunities for EAs are challenging but extremely fulfilling and rewarding.

Students will be exposed to several different topics when enrolled in the education assistant program at Ashton College: human development, assistive technology, skills development, psychology, and disabilities including dyslexia, autism spectrum disorders, and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.

After finishing the coursework, students will be required to complete a six-week practicum to gain practical experience. These practicum placements are typically within private and public elementary or secondary schools.
