As events in the great urban outdoors go, Vancouver’s third edition of the Tour de Concord has something for almost all of us.

The main draw for the June 10 event is biking for those of all ages and abilities.

Proud owners of a Trek Butterfly Madone 7 have already earmarked the event for its spectator-friendly criterion races. Taking place on a closed 900-metre course at Concord Pacific Place (88 Pacific Boulevard), the races will have experienced individual riders competing for cash prizes and bragging rights.

Staged in conjunction with Cycling BC, the competition will see riders make their way around a False Creek course that winds its way past BC Place, Rogers Arena, Concord Community Park, and Science World. All riders interested in participating are required to register with Cycling BC in advance, and need a valid Cycling BC Provincial Race License or UCI.

In addition to races for men, women, and young riders, there will be a Concord Charity Race where the winning team of three will have $5,000 donated to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation on its behalf.

Those with no designs on becoming the next Mathieu Van Der Poel, Jonas Vingegaard Rasmussen, or Tadej Pogačar can show up at the Tour de Concord for free bike safety checks and tune-ups, a kids’ bike obstacle course, beer gardens, and food trucks.

Bike vendors will also be showing off the latest models, including mountain, road, and e-bikes. 

Members of the public who register in advance for the Tour de Concord will be eligible for $6,000 in draw prizes, including a Trek bike valued at $3,200.

Event-day check-in at the Concord Pacific Tent gets you an event passport and free admission to the day’s various activities.

As one might expect, everyone is encouraged to cycle to the Tour de Concord, which will run from 11am to 3pm.
