A quarter of a century on from her smash hit I Bificus, iconic Vancouver rockstar Bif Naked has announced her sixth studio album, Champion

In an Instagram post, Naked notes that its Gemini-season release date, June 15, is her birthday.

“I can think of no better gift for my birthday!” she writes. “I just can’t wait to share this album any longer, and I am simply dying to share it with you!”

Three tracks from the album—”Jim”, “Broke Into Your Car”, and “Rollerdome”—have already been released (in 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively). Combining trippy synths with her signature raw vocals, the songs represent an evolution in her alt-rock core into something more contemporary,

With a backstory that encompasses trans-continental adoption, religious upbringing, overdose, and cancer, the ever-optimistic musician was a staple of Canadian radio in the late ’90s and early 2000s. A Boomtang Boys remix of “Spaceman” landed at #2 on the Canadian Singles Chart in 1998, with subsequent releases “Chotee” and “Lucky” also charting. Her songs soundtracked everything from Charmed to the pilot of The West Wing, and she made a cameo on Buffy the Vampire Slayer singing “Lucky”.

Her 2021 guest judge appearance on Canada’s Drag Race—where Vancouver queen Synthia Kiss lipsynched against Toronto’s Eve 6000 to “I Love Myself Today”—helped introduce her music to a new generation of fans.
