As ongoing and still-exploding familial disputes go, it’s proving to be a particularily messy one, with both sides levelling accusations at each other. And, at the moment, it seems like the end result could be the cancellation of Laura Jane Grace’s upcoming Pearl show in Vancouver on August 12.
On July 17, Laura Jane Grace, who rose to fame as the frontwoman of progressive punk band Against Me!, posted a simple three-word message on Threads: “I feel unsafe.”
That unleashed a torrent of posts from her wife Paris Campbell Grace, who is part of Laura Jane Grace's current live band.
Taking to Threads and Instagram, Paris Campbell Grace asked Laura Jane Grace to leave the house the two call home in Chicago, writing, “I am currently locked in my office with all my belongings, and actually really scared.”
She added that she’s been on the receiving end of “sheer irrational rage” on the daily from Laura Jane Grace.
“She’s been yelling at me since we woke up,” Paris Campbell Grace wrote. “I have remained calm (although admit I have cried a bunch after) and begged her to please be kind to me and try to have a good day.”
She added: “I am trying my best here, but I FEEL unsafe. Laura Jane is perfectly safe, upstairs, tearing the house apart as I type this. I am the one unsafe in this situation, I am publicly asking my wife to please stop this and leave the home.”
Laura Jane Grace, who is in the midst of releasing and promoting a new album titled Adventure Club, responded to her wife’s post with: “In the year and a half I have been with you I think you have maybe had your kid a total of 3 months? And when you do have them you throw them in daycare from 8-5PM every day while you smoke weed and look at TikTok. Last time I left and filed for divorce you went and stayed at a fancy air b&b [sic] in Indiana. I have a kid that lives in this house too. You leave.”
It seems that rather than engaging with each other in the house, the two were choosing to communicate via public social media messages.
As for how this affects Laura Jane Grace fans looking forward to 2025 tour dates, including the one in Vancouver, a text shared by Paris Campbell Grace suggests that the tour is no longer a sure thing.
Referencing both opening slots for the band Murder By Death, and her own tour dates, Laura Jane Grace texted, “I’m pulling out of the rest of the dates with Murder By Death and canceling the rest of the tour year.”
Today, Laura Jane Grace took to Threads and Instagram to post, “Listen to your mother.” Her bio on Threads reads “I Need a Hole in My Head”, likely a reference to her recent single of the same name.
Despite the seeming declaration that her headlining tour—which would include the Pearl show in August—has been cancelled, tickets for shows are still being offered on sites like Ticketmaster.
Fans of the couple meanwhile are busy taking sides on socials. You can follow the drama, which referencing everything from a deactivated OnlyFans account to who is smoking more bales of weed daily, on Threads at @laurajanegrace and @pariscampellgrace.
