Sierra Ferrell bringing her majestic take on old-timey country to Vancouver

Critically-lauded breakout country queen Sierra Ferrell is headed to Vancouver in support of her fourth album Trail of Flowers. The singer and multi-instrumentalist will play the Orpheum on August 10, with tickets going on sale February 23 at 10am.

Drawing on old-timey Americana, plaintive folk, gypsy-wagon jazz, and vintage bluegrass, Ferrell grew up fixated on grunge pioneers like Nirvana and Soundgarden. Living out of a backpack in her twenties, the Charleston, West Virginia-born singer took to the road, busking everywhere from Seattle to New Orleans.

Embracing grassroots country music, Ferrell came up through the DIY ranks, first establishing herself on YouTube and then signing to the much-respected Americana heavyweight Rounder Records.

Since then she’s been embraced by artists ranging from Old Crow Medicine Show to Margo Price; scored the Emerging Act of the Year prize at the Americana Honors & Awards; and basically enchanted everyone whose idea of country is Hank Williams, Iris DeMent, and Nikki Lane rather than whoever’s desperately trying to get noticed these days on Nashville’s Music Row.

You want beautiful? Consider this mission statement from Ferrell, for whom the hype is more than justified: “I’m just trying to put words and melodies together and build it into something people can pour their feelings to, all their happiness and sorrows, so that it changes their reality a little bit and gives them some comfort. To me music is like medicine. And whenever I write a song and it feels healing to me, I know it can heal other people, too.”
