Social Distortion at the Commodore

He once looked bound for Loserville, U.S.A., on a coal-black express train, but Mike Ness has carved out a pretty sweet career for himself. Flash back to the “Kids of the Black Hole” years (Google it along with “Adolescents”; you’ll be glad you did), and the mega-tattooed Social Distortion frontman wasn’t in the best of places. We’re talking heroin addiction and a violent streak that made him one of the biggest badasses in American punk rock. This was made worse by the fact that punk was, at the time, the kind of career you didn’t choose unless you liked the taste of Top Ramen. But proving that a little bullheaded perseverance sometimes goes a long way, look where Ness is now. He’s an upstanding family man with two kids, a couple of sweet vintage rides in the garage (hello 1954 Chevy!), the Boss’s number in his iPhone, and his own clothing line (Black Kat Kustoms). He also happens to still be fronting one of the biggest punk bands to have never scored a major radio hit, which explains why Social Distortion is able to pack out the Commodore not one night but two, namely this Monday and Tuesday (April 16 and 17). And despite all he’s accomplished, muthafucka is still more badass than you’ll ever be.
